Eddy Current Level 1
TRAINING OBJECTIVES: This course is intended to provide a basic knowledge of eddy current
testing fundamentals sufficient to enable the technician to carry out eddy current testing to
established procedures under the supervision of Level 2 or Level 3 personnel.
APPLICABLE STANDARDS: This program meets the requirements of CAN/CGSB-48.9712, ISO 9712 and SNT-TC-1A.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF LEVEL 1 PERSONNEL (AS PER CGSB): Level 1 personnel are defined as
personnel who will carry out industrial eddy current nondestructive inspection under the
supervision of Level 2 or Level 3 personnel and will not be responsible for the eddy
current test method or technique to be used, nor for the assessment of test results.

- Skin effect, standard depth of penetration, standard phase lag
- Instrumentation
- Fundamental operation of: impedance bridge instruments; crack detectors; conductivity meters; recording instruments; strip chart records and FM tape recorders

- Directional properties of eddy current flow for each probe type

Safety shoes are mandatory for all laboratory work.
