PREREQUISITE: CGSB Level 2 Magnetic Particle certification, or equivalent.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES: This course is an intensive 5 day course is designed for CGSB Level 2 Certified technicians who wish to challenge the CGSB Level 3 Certification Examinations as per CAN/CGSB-48.9712. Many of the skills required by the Level 3 are common to each NDT method. Four days of the course will concentrate on engineering, materials and components, procedure writing and other methods of NDT. It is intended to present the necessary information as a foundation on which to build a successful management career in magnetic particle inspection with the following responsibilities of a Level 3 technician noted:

1. The establishment of the correct techniques to ensure proper inspection of the part under inspection
2. Interpreting specifications and codes, designating the particular test methods and techniques to be used, and interpreting the results
3. The interpretation of test results and the evaluation of specimens in accordance with applicable acceptance standards
4. The initiation and assignment of magnetic particle inspection projects
5. Exercising responsibility for the instruction and supervision of personnel in the correct and safe use of magnetic particle equipment
6. Exercising responsibility for the interpretation and implementation of all pertinent regulations concerning operation safety
7. Knowledge of theory and operation of equipment
8. Recommendations for the purchase of new equipment
9. General familiarity with other commonly used nondestructive testing methods

APPLICABLE STANDARDS:  This program meets the requirements of CAN/CGSB-48.9712, ISO 9712 and SNT-TC-1A. The training material presented is not intended as a "guide to passing the Regulatory Examinations". Other reference publications and the sample questions in CGSB and SNT-TC-1A will be recommended as supplementary reading.

DEFINITION OF LEVEL 3 PERSONNEL (as per CGSB): Level 3 personnel are defined as fully qualified personnel who are able to assume full responsibility for a magnetic particle testing facility and staff.
