It's probably safe to say that we all share heavy schedules and, if truth be known, should we be asked to devote just even a fraction of time to do something else, the reply would most likely be unanimous, "Time, I have no time. I can't even keep up with what it is I am asked to do. How could I possibly find time for anything else." I'll bet you've uttered these words at least once, maybe not exactly in the same fashion but the meaning was the same.

Possibly it is time that some thought was given to our current careers. We need to focus somewhat on how we came to choose our careers and why or even how they have chosen us. The world of NDT is a society of dedicated people like you and I, who take pride in what they do because they realize how important it is. Each day they strive for improvement and hope that they have served their society well.

Like every successful community; devotion, commitment, and dedication are what make it strong. People like us can only fulfill these qualities. The Quebec Chapter of CINDE needs people who are dedicated to safety and quality to become more involved and to stand out and make a difference. Our ideas, opinions, arguments, likes and dislikes are the reason why we need to come together to share, learn, understand and better the NDT world we work in. Nondestructive testing, evaluation and quality control is not just a job it is what renders all that we use and consume safe. Our name is on every label whether we see it or not. Let's not simply do the work; let's be part of what makes it work.

The Quebec Chapter needs the support and participation from people like you. We need to know what you think, what should be changed, and what shouldn't. Don't just sit back and complain about what is missing and the problems we are faced with. Voice your opinions, share your ideas and be a part of the ongoing solution. This is your chance to be heard and to show Canada that our Chapter is not merely a ghost of what it should be.

September 11th has taken its toll on everyone and now more than ever what we do is important for everyone's safety. We have all heard far too much disappointing news and it is time to move ahead. Let's get together to uncover the weaknesses that are experienced in our field and build it together with our strengths. 2004 is not as far away as it seems and as many of you are aware the 16th World Conference on NDT will be held in Montreal. Now is our chance to take our place and be a part of history rather than just being a spectator. We need participating members, fresh ideas and new faces. We need past, present and new members for their expertise, knowledge and insight. Do it for you, do it for us, you'll be proud you chose to contribute by participating in Chapter activities.
